EU's Chief Negotiator Michel Barnier Meets Jeremy Corbyn to Discuss Brexit
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The UK-EU negotiations concerning both Brexit, and the future partnership between London and Brussels are "inextricably linked," the Privileges and immunities position paper, published by UK government on Thursday, said, adding that the United Kingdom is interested in forming these new ties as early as possible.

"The discussions around withdrawal and the UK’s future relationship with the EU are therefore inextricably linked, and the UK is eager to begin the latter at the earliest possible opportunity. The UK believes that it is the interests of both parties to do so in order to facilitate the smooth conduct of relations as the UK moves from a Member State to a third country," the paper said.

According to the document, London seeks to establish a "new, deep and special partnership" with the European Union after Brexit.

"This relationship will be of strategic importance to both sides. It will be important to have in place a legally acceptable framework of privileges and immunities that allows for the smooth conduct of relations between the UK and the EU… These privileges and immunities should reflect the extent of the UK’s continued involvement in any EU programmes, agencies or other activities " the paper said.

Brexit negotiations officially started on June 19, when UK Brexit Secretary David Davis arrived in Brussels to negotiate the terms with EU’s chief negotiator Michel Barnier. The talks are expected to conclude by the end of March 2019. The second round of talks is scheduled to start next week.
