"This trend is worrying. Our lifestyles and choices are directly in conflict with our biological clock, we may look young at 40 but biologically we are not, especially in the case of women. We need to understand that aspect well for planning our families," Dr. Neeti Tiwari, Infertility & IVF Expert, Gangaram Hospital, told Sputnik.
"There is the stress of daily life, environmental toxins, drugs, TB especially in rural areas, all play havoc with our system. We also have almost 40% of cases where the cause of low sperm count or low egg reserve is not clear or known. Living a healthy life is the key. Prevention is better than cure," Dr. Tiwari added.
Fertility and assisted reproduction clinics have sprung up in nooks and corners of major metros and are fast spreading into smaller cities, and are spending liberally on advertising in newspapers and other media offering cures for all sorts of fertility issues that Indians are increasingly grappling with.
"We cannot tell women not to go for their careers; all we can suggest is at least go for freezing the eggs so that they can have babies at a later stage if they want. In case of men, we can say not to go for heavy gym exercises or crash diets; just live a healthy and live stress-free," Dr. Tiwari said.
