MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On June 27, Klimov said the Commission proposed to authorize telecommunications watchdog Roskomnadzor to block foreign media outlets working in Russia in case they violate the law.
"This topic was discussed during the general discussion but this is not a draft bill. And it is unknown whether it will ever become one," Klimov told reporters, adding that no bills are being prepared by the Commission at the moment.
The lawmaker explained that the issue was about the proposals made during a closed meeting of the Commission.
"I believe that this is a sensitive topic, I do not know how it could be resolved not only in legal terms but also in technical terms," Klimov said.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on June 27 that this initiative should be thoroughly worked through all departments, adding that the Kremlin was undecided on the issue yet.
