MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The individual, who “was directly guided from the US" and had entered the country to gather documents, was identified and arrested by the Intelligence Ministry forces, and has been sentenced to ten years in jail, Eje’i said at a press conference in Tehran, as quoted by Tashim news agency.
The verdict can be appealed, he said, adding he will provide more details once the Judiciary delivers a final verdict.
Earlier in the day, US Department of State urged Tehran to immediately release the US citizens and other foreigners detained by the Iranian authorities on what Washington called fabricated charges.
