BELGRADE (Sputnik) – A total of 49 people from Serbia left the country to fight for the Daesh terror group, Serbian Interior Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic said Sunday.
“Some of them died, some of them are still there [on Daesh-controlled territories]. That is not such a big figure compared to other European countries, but things like that are always concerning and well-timed exchanges of information are the only way to protect ourselves,” the minister told the Serbian Pink broadcaster in an interview.
“Serbia is one of the safest countries in Europe,” the interior minister added.
The Daesh is a terrorist organization that seized large territories in Iraq and Syria, and is also present in a number of other countries such as Libya and Afghanistan. The group has claimed responsibility for a number of deadly terror attacks across the world over recent years.
