WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The Defense Department explained work on the contract will be performed in South Korea over the next year with an estimated completion date of July 31, 2018.
"General Dynamics Information Technology [of] Fairfax, Virginia was awarded a $14,876,151 modification… contract for combined mission command network operations and maintenance services," the release stated on Monday.
Tensions in the Korean peninsula have been increasing with the US nuclear aircraft carrier Carl Vinson and its battle group deployed in the region since April as well as B1 bombers in a show of military strength.
However, South Korea delayed in June the deployment of the US Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) missile system, after new President Moon Jai-in ordered an environmental impact assessment in the area where four additional THAAD launchers were to be deployed.
