BEIJING (Sputnik) — The latest round of the peace talks on Syria, held in Geneva on July 10-14, contributed to the consolidation of the common policy orientation for finding a resolution for the long-standing conflict, Chinese Foreign Ministry's spokesman Lu Kang said on Monday.
"The peace talks helped consolidate the common political direction for resolving the Syrian issue as well as to establish the general principles for independent decision-making by the people of the Syrian Arab Republic," Lu said.
The spokesman added that the Chinese government was cooperating with the international community on the issue of promoting the political peace process and strengthening of the ceasefire regime in Syria to settle the long-standing conflict as soon as possible.
On July 15, UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura said the seventh round of intra-Syrian talks concluded without breakthroughs or breakdowns. The next round of talks will take place in Geneva in early September, de Mistura said.
