During a meeting of the National Governor’s Association, SpaceX and Tesla founder and CEO Elon Musk declared that artificial intelligence is "the greatest risk we face as a civilization."
The entrepreneur claimed that he has "access to the very most cutting edge AI" and that people should really be concerned about this new emerging technology, according to the Fortune magazine.
"AI’s a rare case where we need to be proactive in regulation, instead of reactive. Because by the time we are reactive with AI regulation, it’s too late," Musk said.
The entrepreneur expressed concern that AI developers may ignore safety concerns while pursuing technological advantage over the competitors, even though artificial intelligence connected to the global network can possibly wreak untold havoc on humanity.
"[They] could start a war by doing fake news and spoofing email accounts and fake press releases, and just by manipulating information… The pen is mightier than the sword," Musk warned.
