WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The bill will give polluters loopholes and tax breaks that could lead to increased greenhouse gas emissions, Scow explained.
“Food & Water Watch is very disappointed to see the passage of AB 398, a bill that will extend California’s cap-and-trade system beyond 2020,” Scow stated. “The bill, heavily influenced by the oil and gas industry, makes California’s flawed cap-and-trade system worse by allowing excessive allowances to pollute and preventing local regulation of greenhouse gases.”
Scrow said the state needed new political leaders willing to regulate oil companies, adding that California Governor Jerry Brown has a record of supporting fracking and terminating regulators who attempted to hold big oil companies accountable.
According to the release, the bill was created with fossil fuel lobbyists and opposed by a coalition of more than 50 environmental groups.
