WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said on Tuesday that the United States wants China to continue opening its markets to US companies.

"We still have work to do with China to achieve a balanced relationship…This means working to lift foreign ownership restrictions so that US companies can participate more fully in China’s growing financial services sector," Mnuchin said at a lunch ahead of China-US economic talks.

Mnuchin added that he would also like to see China remove barriers to trade in the information and communications technology field.

"My hope is that we can increase our focus on concrete and targeted commitments to address both short-term and long-term strategic challenges," Mnuchin noted.

US-China Comprehensive Economic Dialogue will start in Washington, DC tomorrow, with the participation of US Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross and China’s Vice Premier Wang Yang.
