MOSCOW, July 19 (Sputnik) — According to the minister, Macron clearly presented to Putin his position on Ukraine, but noted that cooperation is possible in other areas, especially regarding the situation in Syria.
"The fact that Vladimir Putin came to Versailles allowed to resume the dialogue with Russia. It did not disappear completely, but it was occasional and very complicated up to this moment," Le Drian said in an interview with the CNews channel.
Under the presidency of Emmanuel Macron, France will hold dialogue with everyone, Le Drian added.
Putin arrived in Versailles at the invitation of Macron on May 29. The two leaders discussed bilateral relations and pressing issues of the international agenda, in particular the situations in Ukraine and Syria. Putin characterized the negotiations as "honest."
