Turkish security forces have killed a member of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), listed as a terrorist organization in Turkey, and detained 11 suspects in a counterterror operation in the country's eastern province of Van, local media reported on Wednesday, citing police sources.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The suspects detained during the operation, conducted in Van's Hacibekir neighborhood, were plotting a terror attack, the Anadolu news agency reported.

They were taken to the local police headquarters for legal proceedings, according to the agency.

Tensions between Ankara and the Kurds escalated in July 2015, when a ceasefire between Ankara and the PKK collapsed over a series of terror attacks allegedly committed by PKK members.

Anadolu reported on Tuesday that during counterterrorism operations across Turkey on July 10-17, security forces arrested 168 militants suspected of aiding PKK.
