WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The State Department claimed Russia "occasionally" responded to information requests, but often provided replies that were not substantive or timely.
"Despite the tensions in the overall bilateral relationship with the United States, Russian security services have engaged in a limited amount of cooperation on counterterrorism matters," the report stated.
In addition, the Russian government was cooperating with the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on its probe into the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing. It also requested data from the bureau related to the downing of the Russian plane over Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula in October 2015.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said in October that the Boston Marathon bombings could have been avoided if the United States' relations with Russia were based on trust.
Putin said Washington had ignored two of Moscow's attempts to warn it of the brothers Tsarnayev, who carried out the attack. The US responded after a third attempt, Putin said, asking Russia not to interfere in its domestic affairs.
