"Anyone that has international global business experience is a plus for the administration and is a plus for our country. It is important for people in those positions to have a sense and sensibility about business, about how business is conducted in foreign countries," McConnell said.
On Wednesday, US media reported that the White House offered Huntsman the position of US Ambassador to Russia which he reportedly accepted.
Currently Huntsman is a member of the board of directors of Chevron, Caterpillar, Ford Motor Company, Hilton Worldwide Holdings.
McConnell noted that people with international business experience are not working for foreign countries, they are working for shareholders.
"So I do not see what the conflict is at all. As a matter of fact, it warms my heart to see people with business experience in those kind of political jobs," he added.
US politician and diplomat Jon Huntsman was born on March 26, 1960 in Redwood City, California into a Mormon family of billionaire and philanthropist Jon Huntsman Sr., the owner of the chemical company Huntsman Corporation.
