"On July 24, eight British Members of Parliament (MPs) will begin the 40th annual British American Parliamentary Group (BAPG) exchange program in Washington, DC," the State Department stated on Thursday, adding that the lawmakers would "network with leaders and staffers, and discuss significant domestic and foreign policy issues at the federal, state and local levels."
The British parliamentarians will meet with Republican and Democratic members of the US Congress before visiting their counterpart US Congressmen's home districts, the State Department noted.
The participating parliamentarians from the Conservative Party, Labor Party and Scottish National Party include Suella Fernandes, Rehman Chishti, David Morris, Kerry McCarthy, Michelle Donelan, Gerald Jones, Holly Lynch and Tommy Sheppard.
The British lawmakers will visit their counterparts' home states of Nebraska, Arkansas, California, Alabama, New York and Arizona. After the state visits, the parliamentarians will attend a final meeting in Boston, Massachusetts.
The State Department has been running the exchange program since 1977 as part of the International Visitor Leadership Program.
