WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US Navy has awarded Lockheed Martin Rotary and Mission Systems a more than $76 million contract to modernize the AEGIS missile defense system production program, the Department of Defense said in a press release.
"Lockheed Martin Rotary and Mission Systems [of] Moorestown, New Jersey is being awarded a $76,574,864… contract for fiscal 2017 AEGIS modernization production requirements," the release stated on Thursday.
This contract modification includes options which, if exercised, would bring the cumulative value of the deal to $192,278,064, the Defense Department said.
The contract will also involve foreign military sales to one or more undisclosed contracts, the release added.
The US Missile Defense Agency (MDA) is deploying Aegis Ashore anti-ballistic missile systems at bases in Poland and Romania.
