BERLIN (Sputnik) — The leaders of the Normandy Four group urged to immediately stop the violation of the ceasefire in the Donbass and continue the truce, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron said in a joint statement following quartet's telephone conversation on Monday.
"Violations of the ceasefire must be stopped immediately. The leaders of state and government demand the implementation of the July 21, 2017 ceasefire agreement agreed by the trilateral contact group," the statement published by the German government said.
The negotiators also called for necessary measures to avoid damage to the civil infrastructure and important constructions to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe in the Donbass, the statement said.
