"The Director General (SA & SAARC), Dr. Mohammad Faisal, summoned the Indian Deputy High Commissioner, Mr. J.P. Singh and condemned the unprovoked ceasefire violations by the Indian occupation forces in Leepa Sector on 21 July 2017 resulting in Shahadat (martyrdom) of a 12-year old boy, Umair, in Gheekot village, and injuries to 3 others. This is the third ceasefire violation by the Indian forces in the past four days," the ministry said.
The ministry also urged the Indian side to respect the 2003 ceasefire arrangement and investigate this and other incidents of ceasefire violations, the statement reads. The Indian side should permit the UN Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan to play its mandated role as per the UN Security Council resolutions, the statement added.
The Jammu and Kashmir state has been a territory disputed by India and Pakistan since 1947. The two countries have gone through three wars over the region, but without having the conflict ever resolved. In 1993, 26 political, social and religious organizations in India formed the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC), an alliance aimed at establishing the independence of the region.
The sides have traded blame for violations of the ceasefire on the Line of Control (LoC) and Working Boundary, while India has accused Pakistan of backing terrorism in Kashmir. In November, New Delhi summoned Pakistani deputy high commissioner over allegations that Pakistani forces mutilated two Indian soldiers in Jammu and Kashmir.
