Poland, Russia Discuss Future Cooperation Within UNSC

The Polish Foreign Ministry said that Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov and his Polish counterpart Joanna Wronecka discussed potential cooperation within the UN Security Council during their consultations held in Moscow on Tuesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov and his Polish counterpart Joanna Wronecka discussed potential cooperation within the UN Security Council during their consultations held in Moscow on Tuesday, the Polish Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

"Potential cooperation between Poland and Russia at the Security Council forum was among the topics on the meetings’ agenda," the ministerial statement said.

The statement noted that the diplomats also discussed the progress of the UN Security Council’s work on the most important issues that the organization was facing.

"During the conversation the officials discussed a broad range of issues on the UN Security Council agenda, with an emphasis on national and regional issues, the prevention of conflicts, and UN peacemaking and peacebuilding efforts," the ministry added.

The UN Security Council consists of five permanent, veto-wielding members: Russia, the United States, the United Kingdom, China and France and includes 10 non-permanent, rotating members.
