WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US stock indexes set new record highs at closing Wednesday as financial and technology companies continued to post strong earnings reports.
The Nasdaq composite closed up 0.16 percent at 6,422.75, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 21,711.01, gaining 0.45 percent.
The S&P 500 closed at 2,477.83, down from its high of 2,481.69 earlier but still up 0.03 percent on the day.
The Dow also hit a new record for intraday trading after defense giant Boeing reported strong second-quarter earnings, and its stock made record gains.
Stocks were also driven by the US Federal Reserve's announcement that it would maintain interest rates at 1-1.25 percent.
