MOSCOW (Sputnik) — US President Donald Trump cheered at Republican senators on Thursday after the Senate budget committee published a repeal bill for his predecessor’s signature healthcare policy.
"Go Republican Senators, Go! Get there after waiting for 7 years. Give America great healthcare!" Trump tweeted.
The eight-page bill – called the Health Care Freedom Act but nicknamed "skinny repeal" bill by US media – was posted ahead of an anticipated vote on it in parliament, the latest attempt by the Republicans to get rid of Barack Obama's legacy.
The scaled-down repeal bill seeks to eliminate penalties on Americans who do not want to buy health insurance and on employers who are currently forced to have their employees insured.
According to Sen. McConnell, it will also give more flexibility to states "to implement reforms that provide more options for consumers to buy the health insurance they want" as well as guarantee a three-year relief from the medical device tax.
"This legislation will also prioritize funding for women’s health through community health centers instead of large abortion providers and political organizations," he added.
"The American people have suffered under Obamacare for too long. It’s time to end the failed status quo. It’s time to send legislation to the president that will finally move our country beyond the failures of Obamacare," Mitchell concluded.
The call for action comes after the Senate rejected two Republican plans to repeal and replace Obama’s signature Affordable Care Act earlier this week.
