MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Earlier in the day, the ministry said that a group of four militants attacked the Iraqi embassy around 06:30 GMT. One of the militants detonated a bomb at the entrance gate of the embassy, thus opening way to other attackers. The Daesh has claimed the responsibility for the attack.
"No embassy staff members were hurt in the attack. The security forces rescued the ambassador, deputy ambassador and other staff and took them to a safe place… One policeman was wounded in the attack," the ministry's statement read, as quoted by the Tolo media outlet.
Media reports suggested that two embassy security personnel were killed in the attack.
Last week, Afghan security forces recovered two Pakistani diplomatic officials who were abducted in June.
Afghanistan has been suffering from significant political, social and security-related issues provoked by the activity of the Daesh. The Afghan National Defense and Security Forces have been acting together to combat terrorism in the country.
