WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US-led coalition against the Daesh terror group (banned in Russia) carried out 23 strikes consisting of 27 engagements in Syria and Iraq on Sunday, including 14 near the city of Raqqa, Operation Inherent Resolve said in a press release.
"Near Raqqah, 14 strikes engaged 12 ISIS [Daesh] tactical units; destroyed nine fighting positions, three supply caches, two ISIS-held buildings, a vehicle, a tunnel and a command and control node; and suppressed a fighting position," the release stated on Monday.
In Iraq, the coalition conducted seven strikes consisting of 10 engagements against the terror group’s positions near seven cities, including Al Huwayjah, Rawah and Tal Afar.
The strikes destroyed oil assets, tactical units, vehicles, a mortar team and other targets, according to the release.
The US-led coalition of more than 70 members is conducting airstrikes, ground-based and rocket-propelled artillery fire against Daesh in Syria and Iraq. The strikes in Iraq are conducted in support of the Iraqi government, but those in Syria are not authorized by the UN Security Council or the government of President Bashar Assad.
