MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The German embassy in Russia installed a sculpture of the so-called Buddy Bear near its building located at Moscow's Mosfilmovskaya street to stress the friendship between the two countries, the embassy's press service said in a statement.
"We have lent colors to the Mosfilmovskaya street, which has already been wonderful — from this morning near the German embassy's building a kind and friendly Buddy Bear has been installed," the statement published on the diplomatic mission's Facebook account said on Tuesday.
The statement added that the sculpture was named was named DruzhBaer, which is a combination of the Russian word Druzhba (friendship in Russian) and the German word Baer (bear in German).
The Buddy Bears are life-size sculptures of bears symbolizing friendship, tolerance and peaceful coexistence of cultures. The initiative to install the sculptures in the cities across the world is supported by the German Foreign Ministry. In Russia the Buddy Bears have already been installed near Germany's consulates general in the cities of St. Petersburg, Kaliningrad and Yekaterinburg.
