MOSCOW (Sputnik) – A visit by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to Israel would be welcomed by the country, Israeli Ambassador to Russia Gary Koren told Sputnik.
"Both sides are conducting an intensive exchange of delegations. We will welcome all visits, including, of course, the visit of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov," Koren said.
The ambassador recalled that Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev had visited Israel in 2016 and Russian parliament's upper house speaker Valentina Matvienko had made two separate trips to the country.
Medvedev paid an official visit to Israel in November 2016, during which the Russian and Israeli sides discussed trade, economy, investment, scientific innovations and humanitarian cooperation.
Matvienko attended Israel's ex-president Shimon Peres' funeral in September. The Federation Council chairwoman also visited the country in February 2016.
