Syrian military aircraft and artillery continue to pound the eastern outskirts of Salmiya near the Ithriya-Raqqa road in an attempt to dislodge the Daesh terrorist entrenched there while Syrian government forces advance forward to secure the region.
A military source in the field told Sputnik that the Syrian army has already reached the vicinity of al-Dakliya village and is currently attempting to encircle the Daesh forces in the area.
The source also said that the Syrian military is conducting a two-pronged offensive against Daesh: while one force advances from Palmyra, another force moves in along the Ithriya-Resafa road.
Syrian government forces seek to cut off the supply lines for the Daesh forces entrenched in Al-Sukhnah – a town of strategic importance and an important milestone in the Syrian army’s march towards the besieged city of Deir ez-Zor.
