MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The US developers of the plan for the supply of lethal weapons to Ukraine apparently assume that the situation in Ukraine's east is not explosive enough, the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Department for Non-Proliferation and Arms Control, Mikhail Ulyanov, told Sputnik on Tuesday.
"The developers of the plan to supply lethal weapons to Ukraine, apparently, believe that the situation in the east of this country is not explosive enough and that it is necessary to add fuel to the fire. The references to the fact that we are talking about the supply of defensive weapons do not change the essence of the matter, especially since the militiamen are not making any attempts to expand the territory controlled by them," Ulyanov said.
On Monday, The Wall Street Journal reported citing US diplomats and military officials that the US state and defense departments had devised a plan to supply Ukraine with antitank missiles and other weaponry. According to the media outlet, the Pentagon and the State Department are seeking the approval of the White House on the issue.
