WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Democrats in the US Senate said in a letter on Tuesday they want to work with President Donald Trump and Republicans on a bipartisan tax reform plan.
"We are writing to express our interest in working with you on bipartisan tax reform," the letter to Trump and Senate Republican leaders stated.
The letter said there are three key items that should be non-negotiable in the bipartisan tax reform: not increasing the tax burden on the middle class; the bill go through the regular order of the Senate; and deficit-financed tax cuts that could endanger Medicare and Medicaid programs in the future should not be the focus of the reforms.
The tax system modernization should increase wages, improve job growth, promote domestic investment, modernize business and international tax systems and put in place a sound fiscal policy that raises needed revenue, the letter added.
