US Sanctions Bill May Trigger 'Diplomatic Deadlock' in Relations With Russia
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Tuesday, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said neither he nor US President Donald Trump were happy about the Congress' decision to approve sanctions against Russia, but added that this was the decision the legislature took and it would have to be accepted.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said during a press briefing that Trump would sign the legislation that imposes sanctions on Iran, North Korea and Russia after a legal review, despite the fact provisions limit the president’s ability to lift measures against Moscow.

"Of course, it is important what the US president thinks about this, what he thinks in general about the current state and prospects of bilateral relations. But so far we have not heard such statements. At the same time, we do state the somewhat contradictory nature of statements voiced in the White House," Peskov told reporters when asked if it was important for Russia what Trump thought about the sanctions.

Peskov also said that there are no contacts between Putin and Trump being planned in near future.

"No," Peskov said, when asked whether any Putin-Trump contacts were being planned taking into account the ministerial meeting.

On Tuesday, a source in the Russian Foreign Ministry told Sputnik that Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson were expected to hold a meeting on the sidelines of the East Asia Summit Foreign Ministers Meeting (FMM) in Manila this weekend.
