16:23 GMT 02.08.2017 (Updated: 11:48 GMT 06.08.2022) Seeking to ramp up the pressure against Venezuela and possibly to pave way for a regime change there, the US Treasury Department imposed sanctions against Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.
The sanctions were imposed against Maduro due to alleged "undermining democracy" in Venezuela by establishing a Constituent Assembly, even though the country's leader is acting in full accordance with the Bolivarian Constitution.
