MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Venezuelan opposition will hold a protest rally on Thursday, the day of the inauguration of a new assembly elected last weekend.
"Without doubt, we are calling for everything to take place in strict correspondence to the law. We are calling on everyone to be calm and adhere to the law," Peskov told reporters.
On Sunday, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro’s government held elections for delegates to the Constituent Assembly that would be charged with rewriting the country’s Constitution. The move was criticized by opposition and led to mass protests across the nation. The demonstrations have already caused numerous victims.
The turmoil is happening amid the wider unrest in Venezuela against the backdrop of the economic crisis and the decision of the Supreme Court to limit functions of the country's parliament controlled by opposition in April. Though the ruling had subsequently been reversed, the protests continued leading to over 100 deaths.
