The "secret" security clearance position offers a hefty six-figure pay — $124,406 to $187,000 annually — and the chosen candidate will be "responsible for leadership of NASA’s planetary protection capability, maintenance of planetary protection policies, and oversight of their implementation by NASA’s space flight missions," the listing noted.
Along with at least a year of "broad engineering expertise," candidates must have "advanced knowledge of Planetary Protection" and be able to demonstrate "skills in diplomacy that resulted in win-win solution during extremely difficult and complex multilateral discussion." After all, protecting the planet isn’t so cut-and-dry.
Unsure about being able to handle the stress level? Don't sweat it. "It's a moderate level," Catherine Conley, the current NASA Planetary Protection Officer, told Business Insider. "It's not extremely careful, but it's not extremely lax."
If you’re up for protecting the world, you should hurry. NASA is only giving interested persons until August 14 to submit their resumes for the three-to-five year contract position.
