MOSCOW (Sputnik) — US President Donald Trump signed earlier on Wednesday into law a bill that stipulates tougher sanctions on Russia, Iran and North Korea.
"The United States leaves no chance for constructive cooperation with Russia — the most important partner in solving the central problems of modern world development. This cooperation will inevitably continue to be selective for years," Kosachev wrote in his Facebook blog.
According to Kosachev, the United States demonstrated the loss of an adequate perception of the realities of the modern day and, consequently, "lost any rights in claims to an 'exclusive' role in global leadership."
The Russian lawmaker added that, in light of new sanctions, the prospects of further settlement of the Iranian and North Korean problems "look very grim."
The legislation, which has now become US law with Trump's signature, punishes Russia for its alleged interference in the 2016 election as well as military activities in Ukraine, Crimea and Syria.
The sanctions target Russia's defense, intelligence, mining, shipping and railway industries and restricts dealings with Russian banks and energy companies.
The law also limits the US president's ability to ease any sanctions on Russia by requiring Congress' approval to lift any restrictions.
