New Delhi (Sputnik) — The incident happened in Mumbai in 2015. The sailors and a defense employee were arrested by Cuffe Parade police on July 2015 after a naval officer's family alleged that they had raped their minor daughter and were blackmailing her. It was found that one of the sailors had developed relations with the girl and had raped her over four months. The victim and her sailor friend parted ways and got engaged to another person but the blackmailing continued, leading to the police complaint. Police said the accused demanded sexual favors from the victim for not informing her fiancé of their past affairs.
“The case was investigated in detail and a court martial was constituted. The court martial has found both sailors guilty and sentenced them to rigorous imprisonment for 15 years and 12 years respectively, and dismissed with disgrace from naval service,” Navy officials said.
“The naval trial ensured safeguards including protection of the identity of victims as per the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012. Further, in accordance with the provisions of the act, other details of the case are not being disclosed,” the official added.
