WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The Department of State has approved the sale of a dozen A-29 Super-Turcano aircraft to Nigeria to fight terrorists’ movements, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said in a news release on Thursday.
"The State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Government of Nigeria of twelve (12) A-29 Super Tucano aircraft and weapons… The estimated total case value is $593 million," the release stated.
The aircraft will support Nigerian military operations against terrorist organizations Boko Haram and Daesh as well as efforts to counter illicit trafficking in Nigeria and the Gulf of Guinea, the release said.
The Super Tucano is a sustainable platform for counter-terrorism, counter-insurgency, border surveillance and illicit trade interdiction operations, according to the release.
