WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US Department of Defense has no updates on the status of military attaches in Russia after Moscow demanded that Washington reduce the number of its diplomats in the country, Pentagon spokesperson Capt. Jeff Davis said in a briefing on Friday.

"I don't have anything on that. This is a diplomatic matter," Davis told reporters when asked about attaches in Russia.

Davis said representatives of the Defense Department are in Russia under diplomatic status.

On Monday, Davis said the order for the United States to reduce its diplomatic personnel in Russia has had no impact on military operations.

"It has had no impact on our operations," Davis told reporters.

Last Friday, the Russian Foreign Ministry offered Washington to reduce the number of the US diplomatic and technical staff working in the country to 455 by September 1. According to the ministry, this number is commensurate with the number of Russian diplomats in the United States. Also, the Foreign Ministry announced the suspension of two US diplomatic missions’ properties in Russia as of August 1.
