WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — American nationals should remain vigilant due to reports of gunfire in multiple areas of Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), the US embassy said in a security message.
"The US embassy has received reports of gunfire in the following areas of Kinshasa: Bandal, Ngiri-Ngiri, Makal, Matadi Road near Ngaliema, Matete," the message stated.
The message noted the incidents are unconfirmed, and people in multiple neighborhoods could be reporting the same incidents.
The US State Department already has an ongoing travel warning for Americans to avoid all unnecessary travel to the DRC due to ongoing instability and sporadic violence.
