BALTRON Navy Military Drills Kick Off in Baltic Sea - Lithuanian MoD

Lithuanian Defense Ministry stated that annual Baltic Naval Squadron naval military drills involving warships from Lithuania, Latvia and Germany are scheduled to begin in the Baltic Sea on Monday.

Lithuanian-Latvian-German Joint Naval Drills Continue in Lithuania
VILNIUS (Sputnik) The annual Baltic Naval Squadron (BALTRON) naval military drills involving warships from Lithuania, Latvia and Germany are scheduled to begin in the Baltic Sea on Monday, the press service of the Lithuanian Defense Ministry said in a statement.

"On August 7-11, the annual international military exercises BALTRON Squadron Exercise 17/2 involving the Baltic states' warships will take place in the Baltic Sea, the Lithuanian territorial waters and the special economic zone," the statement read.

During the drills, Lithuania will use its LNS Jotvingis (N42) ship, Suduvis (M52) and Kursis (M54) minehunters, Aukstaitis (P14) and Selis (P15) patrol ships, Sakiai rescue vessel and H21 harbor cutter, according to the statement. Germany will reportedly engage its Pegnitz (M1090) minesweeper.

The international military drills will be headed by Lithuanian Navy Commander Tomas Skurdenis. the statement specified.

The exercises would practice maneuvers, submarine target defense, communication, as well as search and rescue operations.
