KIEV (Sputnik) – Minister for Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine Ihor Nasalyk earlier said that the operator of the Ukrainian gas transportation system, Ukrtransgaz, may not be technically ready to ensure reliable gas transit because of Naftogaz's reluctance to invest in the GTS.
"From our point of view, there is no reason to worry about the reliability of the Ukrainian GTS, We guarantee uninterrupted transit," Naftogaz Chief Commercial Officer Yuriy Vitrenko said in an interview with Ukrainian Channel 5 television.
In June 2014, Gazprom switched Ukraine to a prepayment scheme citing its massive gas debt. Ukraine's energy firm Naftogaz refused to buy gas from Gazprom in October 2015 due to high prices, saying it had other suppliers in Europe.
The European Union intervened in late 2015 to ensure uninterrupted gas transit through Ukraine.
