"The US Embassy has lifted travel restrictions for personal and official travel for all embassy personnel to Wadi Rum, the city of al-Jafr, all areas south of the city of al-Jafr along Highway 5 in the direction of Ma’an, the Desert Highway (Highway 15) between Ma’an and Aqaba, as well as the areas east of the Desert Highway. The guidance in the Security Message of July 26, 2017 is no longer in effect," the Embassy said on Monday.
The statement warned, however, that travel advisories remain in effect for Jordan's borders with Syria and Iraq, as well as the country's refugee camps The embassy urged citizens to continue avoiding those areas.
All US government personnel, the statement added, must receive prior permission to visit any area within 10 kilometers of the Syrian border, or travel on Highway 10 east of the town Ruwayshid toward the Iraqi border.
