The French National Assembly on Wednesday approved the second of the two laws aiming to restore trust in French politics, with 412 votes in its favor and 74 against, according to the press release on the parliament's website.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Another law, which aimed to forbid hiring of relatives, was approved by the National Assembly last week.

"On Wednesday, August 9, at the end of the day, the [National] Assembly definitively adopted the draft of the organic law on confidence in politics. 412 lawmaker voted for, 74 lawmakers voted against and 62 lawmakers abstained," the statement said.

The latest approved law put an end to the parliamentary funds, a sum of several million euros that lawmakers could redistribute to communes and associations in their constituencies.

The law aims to restore people's trust in the government and elected officials, following a number of scandals linked to alleged nepotism hires.

This year's presidential campaign was marred by the scandal around Francois Fillon, the candidate of The Republicans' party, who faced multiple allegations over his wife allegedly failing to do the work she was paid for as Fillon's parliamentary assistant.

Cleansing French politics became one of the central campaign issues for Fillon's rival, Emmanuel Macron, who won the election.
