BEIJING (Sputnik) – The updated casualties figures were published by authorities of Ngawa Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture of Sichuan on its official Weibo social network page.
The Chinese Central Television (CCTV) reported earlier in the day that the country's authorities have evacuated over 60,000 tourists from Ngawa Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture after the earthquake.
The powerful earthquake struck the Ngawa Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture on Tuesday. It hit an area close to the Jiuzhaigou nature reserve, a tourist destination. Thereafter, the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre registered another powerful 6.3-magnitude earthquake in the same province.
According to local media, the dead included at least eight tourists. It was also reported that citizens of France and Canada are among those injured.
