After appealing to the public for assistance just days before, authorities zeroed in on an address in the west London neighborhood of Chelsea, Scotland Yard said in a statement. The man, arrested Thursday, was held on the suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm at a south London police station, but has since been released pending inquiries, The Sun reported.
First captured back in early May on CCTV surveillance, the security footage shows the jogger, wearing a grey shirt and blue shorts, making his way across the bridge when he suddenly pushes the 33-year-old victim from the sidewalk into traffic.
"By this time the members of the public who had helped the woman were gone and she tried to talk to him as he ran past her but he just ignored her," Sergeant Mat Knowles, the investigating officer from the Putney Safer Neighbourhood Team, said in a press statement.
The arrested man has not been charged. Reflecting on the recent efforts of the London community, a Scotland Yard release noted they "received a good response from the appeal," but are "still keen to hear from anyone who has information who has not yet come forward."
