WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — On July 1, the Department of Defense said that Raytheon would provide electronic upgrades to the AEGIS air and missile defense systems on board Arleigh Burke destroyers and Ticonderoga cruisers.
"Raytheon Missile Systems [of] Tucson, Arizona is being awarded a $32,291,652 modification… contract for… fiscal [year] 2017 Standard Missile-6 full-rate production requirements and spares," the release stated on Wednesday.
The most recent test of a SM-3 Block IIA ship-launched Aegis missile on June 22 was unsuccessful but the failure was later blamed on human error.
