Mayday, Mayday! Rescue Chopper Takes a Tumble on Austria’s Highest Mountain

Subscribe
Dispatched to the top of Austria’s Grossglockner Mountain, a rescue mission goes sour after the helicopter’s pilot loses control of the bird while trying to perform a touch-and-go operation.

According to the Telegraph, the chopper was picking up a mountaineer who was suffering from heart trouble, but just as one of the hikers stepped on board, the pilot lost control. Luckily, only the paramedic suffered minor injuries; the pilot, rescuer and patient emerged unharmed.

It’s unclear what caused the crash. A mix of weather and altitude have been proposed as factors.
