Estonian Prime Minister Juri Ratas will discuss the construction of a regional liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal with his Latvian and Lithuanian counterparts later in the day, the Estonian government said in statement.

TALLINN (Sputnik) — The meeting between Ratas, Latvia's Maris Kucinskis and Lithuania's Saulius Skvernelis is set to take place in the Latvian village of Incukalns, where the gas storage is located.

"A regional LNG solution should be cost-efficient and sustainable in the long run. Estonia is willing to consider various forms of cooperation, yet these should be built on a market organisation providing equal opportunities," Ratas said prior to the meeting, as quoted in the statement.

The planned LNG terminal is expected to diversify and secure gas deliveries to the Baltic states.

The meeting will become the third in series of special LNG-devoted visits, according to the statement.

The leaders previously met in the Estonian town of Paldiski, which is considered one of the LNG terminal's prospective locations. In July, the officials also met in the Lithuanian port of Klaipeda, where the LNG storage vessel is docked.

According to Ratas, researches ordered by the European Commission revealed that the best place for constructing the LNG terminal would be the Gulf of Finland. The sides also consider Paldiski and Estonia's Muuga port as other prime locations for the planned terminal.
