MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The ramming attack on a crowd during clashes between rallying white supremacists and counter-protesters in the US city of Charlottesville, Virginia, will reportedly be handled as a homicide, local NBC29 news outlet said, citing the city's commonwealth attorney.

The violence erupted in Charlottesville on Saturday, leading to multiple casualties. Earlier in the day, a few hundred demonstrators marched to protest the removal of a statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee, seen to glorify the era of slavery.
In response to the clashes, the governor of Virginia, Terry McAuliffe, declared a state of emergency in the city.
