MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his condolences to his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah Sisi over the deadly trains’ collision, the Kremlin press service said on Saturday.
"President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin expressed his condolences to the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt over the tragic consequences of a train crash near Alexandria," the press service said.
On Friday, two trains collided in the suburbs of the Egyptian city of Alexandria. One of the trains was traveling from Cairo, and the other from Port Said. As a result of the collision, several cars derailed and overturned. According to the country’s Health Ministry, 42 people died and over 170 were injured.
Earlier on Saturday, the Al Arabiya broadcaster reported citing local officials that the death toll grew to 49.
