Seeing Pink Elephants… Literally: Little Jumbo That Stands Out From the Herd
06:00 GMT 12.08.2017 (Updated: 12:52 GMT 10.11.2022) No, it’s not a hallucination: this baby elephant is actually pink! The calf spotted in Kruger National Park in South Africa is an albino, which is an extremely rare phenomenon among African elephants.
Albino elephants are much smaller than their conspecifics. Though amazingly adorable, unfortunately the pink animal is likely to suffer health issues. Exposure to the scalding African sun may cause blindness and skin problems due to lack of melanin in the elephant's skin.
