During the clashes between the two camps, a car rammed into the crowd and caused multiple injuries among rallying people. In another deadly incident, a helicopter crashed near Charlottesville, killing two people, according to Virginia state police.
Commenting on the deadly events, Trump strongly condemned the racially-provoked violence in Charlottesville, saying the events were a "display of hatred, bigotry and violence."
We ALL must be united & condemn all that hate stands for. There is no place for this kind of violence in America. Lets come together as one!

Deepest condolences to the families & fellow officers of the VA State Police who died today. You're all among the best this nation produces.

At the same time, the US president didn't put the blame on any particular group.
Several Republican senators, like, for example, Texan Senator Ted Cruz, have condemned the recent events in the city of Charlottesville as an act of "domestic terrorism," and called for investigation in the matter.
Some of them, including US Republican Senator Cory Gardner, urged US President Donald Trump to "call evil by its name" and pursue a tougher policy toward far-right nationalist groups.
Mr. President — we must call evil by its name. These were white supremacists and this was domestic terrorism. https://t.co/PaPNiPPAoW

US Democratic Senator for Colorado Michael Bennet, in his turn, has called on President Donald Trump to denounce white nationalism.
The American public has also strongly condemned the events in Charlottesville.
If you think for a second what happened in #Charlottesville yesterday is over, you are wrong. We can't continue to ignore #WhiteSupremacy.

Their opinions with regard to Trump's guilt and responsibility for the violence outbreak are divided.
Some social media users said that Trump bears a part of the blame for what happened because of his controversial rhetoric on racial and migrant issues that could have provoked the violence.
You're disgusting! You really put the blame "on many sides" instead of condemning white supremacists

Others believe that the rise of nationalist movements has nothing to do with Trump's policies.
So the Mayor of Charlottesville says Trump "courted white supremacists and antisemites?"
